Novi Zagreb-istok, the eastern part of Novi Zagreb, lies to the south of the Sava river, with the Bundek Lake found in the northern part of the district. This lake was originally a gravel pit, but has been renovated into a lake with a tourist beach. Close to the lake you can find the Zagreb Hippodrome (to watch horse races), which has a design based on the Longchamp Racetrack in Paris. The district largely consists of residential areas, and contains Zagreb’s biggest building (and one of the biggest in Europe): Mamutica. This apartment complex from 1974 is 240m high, 60m long, and has 19 floors with a total of 1169 apartments.
