Zagreb Zoo is one of three zoos in Croatia and located in Maksimir Park and opposite Maksimir Stadium. The zoo is home to 2,225 animals, from 275 species. It also participates in the European Endangered Species Program. It is the only zoo in the world to have olms and Balkan snow mice. Including the lakes and ponds, it has a total area of 7 hectares. Since 1990, the zoo has undergone major reconstructions and modernization, the first part of which was completed in 2016. Animals in that zoo include snow leopards, red pandas, okapis, chimpanzees, and pygmy hippos.
