The Croatian Natural History Museum is located on Dimitrije Demeter Street in Gornji Grad in Zagreb, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Zagreb. The museum is the oldest and largest natural history museum in Croatia. Its collection includes more than 2 million artifacts, including more than 1.1 million animal specimens. The museum also contains a large public scientific library. The oldest books date back to the 17th century. Unfortunately, the collection has not been properly inventoried for some time, but it is estimated that it holds about 30,000 books. It also contains remains of the Neanderthal from Krapina; bones from a site in Croatia.
